Mary Laurentia Blake

Mary Laurentia Blake, 89, a resident of Pittsfield for 56 years and more recently of Devonshire Estates, Lenox, died Monday at Springside of Pittsfield.
Born in Pittsfield on May 18, 1915, daughter of William J. and Anna Fettig Hoctor, she attended schools in New Lebanon, N.Y., and St. Joseph's High School.
She had moved to Lenox in 1998.
Mrs. Blake was employed by the former England Brothers Department Store, first as a clerk and later as assistant manager of the coat and dress department, retiring in 1966. Prior to that, she had worked at GE.
A communicant of Sacred Heart Church, she founded the parish's Rosary Sodality Honor Guard, which participates at funeral services for women of the parish. She received the Volunteer of the Year award from the parish in 1987.
She was a past member of the Pine View Snow Runners and the Berkshire Snow Seekers snowmobile clubs. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking and gardening.
Her husband, Harry Blake, whom she married Feb. 11, 1936, died April 23, 1998.
She leaves a daughter, Constance M. Robinson of Dalton; a son, James W. Blake of Pittsfield; a brother, William M. Hoctor of New Lebanon; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a foster brother, Sebastian Cruisce of Nassau, N.Y., and a foster sister, Jean Veil of Albany, Ga., both of whom were raised by her parents. She was predeceased by another daughter, Ann M. Jacob, on Dec. 14, 1993.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mary Laurentia Hoctor Blake, age 89, was called safely home on March 7, 2005. The funeral will be Friday at 8:15 from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. A spring burial will be held at Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon, N.Y. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Church Rosary Sodality or the Jimmy Fund in care of the funeral home. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Hoctor, a sister, Helen Haumuller, and her great-granddaughter, Lauren L. Martin, who died Jan. 20, 2002.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Cheryl Martin, Michelle Tatro, Richard Jacob, Sharon Bradley, Steven Jacob, Edward Robinson, Susan Dapson, Joseph Blake, Shannon Steinman, Megan Brandall, Matthew Blake; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Kristen Lovallo, Shane Tatro, Lindsay Tatro, Erin Martin, Colleen Martin, Ryan, Matthew and Alex Jacob, Danielle and Kelsey Bradley, Chelsea, Bailey and Carly Robinson, Joseph and Christopher Dapson, Molly Blake, Keelan, Scott, Peyton, Brett Jr., and London Steinman, and great-great-granddaughters, Anissa Lovallo, Kylee and Kayden Sheerin.
