Rose A. Austin, 93, of 176 Columbus Ave., Berkshiretown Apartments, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Troy, N.Y., on March 12, 1911, daughter of Anthony and Marianna Sizock Strauss, she was a 1932 graduate of St. Margaret College in Albany, N.Y.
She also had resided in New Hartford, Conn., until returning to Pittsfield 25 years ago.
Mrs. Austin was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, retiring in 1973. Earlier, as a registered nurse, she had worked as a private child's nurse both in Europe and in the United States. After retiring, she had helped raise sheep in New Hartford.
She was a communicant of Holy Family Church.
She enjoyed knitting and traveling.
She leaves a son, John A. Austin of Bennington, Vt., three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Rose A. Austin, 93, who would have celebrated her 94th birthday on Saturday, died March 8, 2005. Funeral services will be private. There will be no calling hours.
She also leaves her three grandchildren, Jennifer Miller, John A. Austin Jr. and Erica Austin, all of New Hartford, and three great-grandchildren, Alia Miller and Zachary and Garrett Austin.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Michael, Peter and Steve Strauss, and by four sisters, Mary Flossic, Agnes Marzuk, Sophia Roche and Julia Zuorski. DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., is in charge of arrangements.
