Irene M. Peeples

Irene M. Peeples, 83, of 329 Pittsfield Road, Devonshire Estates, formerly of 396 Maple St., Hinsdale, died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in Bel Air, Md., on Dec. 24, 1921, daughter of Samuel S. and Helen R. Coale Magness, she was a 1939 graduate of Bel Air High School. She also graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md., in 1943.

Mrs. Peeples operated Peeples Choice Gift Shop in Hinsdale from 1964 until its closing in 1977. While in Baltimore, she had worked as head nurse for pediatrics at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield, where she was a member of its choir and its parish council from 1990 to 1995.

She was also a Eucharistic minister from 1990 to 2002. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling and reading biography.

She and her husband, Carlton M. Peeples, were married Sept., 26, 1948, in Bel Air.

Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Philip S. Peeples of Pine Plains, N.Y., and Bruce D. Peeples of Manasquan, N.J.; three daughters, Laurie A. Boucher of South Hadley, Margaret E. Peeples of Dalton and Sarah S. Beetch of Loveland, Colo.; four brothers, Samuel S. Magness Jr. of Bel Air, William C. Magness of Westminster, Md., Reed Magness of Fallston, Md., and Timothy Magness of White Hall, Md., and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Irene M. Peeples, who died March 2, 2005, will be Monday, March 7, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to United Parkinson's Foundation in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is handling the arrangements.

She is lovingly survived by her three grandchildren, Kelly, Robert and Ellen Peeples; her daughters-in-law, Charan and Janet Peeples; sons-in-law, Richard Boucher and Neal Beetch, and sisters-in-law, Josephine, Joanne, Barbara, Pamela and Arlene Magness.

She was predeceased by beloved grandson Scott Peeples, and by two brothers, Vernon and Henry J. Magness.
