Joseph T. Vella

Joseph T. Vella, 90, of 269 Lenox Ave. died Sunday at Springside Nursing Home, where he had resided for the past year.
Born in Cheshire on March 26, 1914, son of Virgilio and Angelina Bertelli Vella, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mr. Vella owned and operated the former Pittsfield Floor Surfacing Co. for more than 50 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 272 and the Itam Lodge.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He leaves a daughter, Margaret Potter of Pittsfield; a brother, Harry Vella of Pittsfield; two sisters, Mildred Shook and Mary Norton, both of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren. He also leaves his former wife of 41 years, Emma I. Stricker Vella of Pittsfield. Another daughter, Nancy M. Vella, died Nov. 19, 1984.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Joseph T. Vella, 90, was called safely home on Feb. 27, 2005. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 6 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 9 with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Springside Nursing Home Activities Fund in care of the funeral home. He will be remembered by his two grandchildren, Kurt and David Skowron. Joseph is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Andrew and Reno Vella, and, in 1956, by his grandson, Frederick Skowron.
