Ronald O. "Butch" Russell

Ronald O. "Butch" Russell, 66, of 638 Crane Ave. died Saturday morning at home.

Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 8, 1938, son of Omer and Julia Brown Russell, he attended local schools.

An Air Force veteran, he served from 1955 to 1957 with the military police during the Korean War period.

Mr. Russell was employed as a laborer for Local Laborers Union 473 for more than 40 years, working with many area contractors, including the Brattleboro (Vt.) and Rowe nuclear power plants. After his retirement in 2000, he became a self-employed master painter.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and enjoyed basketball, gardening and landscaping.

He and his wife, the former Beverly Kucka, would have celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary March 5.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Michael R. Russell of Jupiter, Fla., and Gary F. Russell of Salem, Ore.; two daughters, Tammy Lee Russell of Dalton and Marie Julia Russell of Lanesboro; a brother, Bruce Russell of Pittsfield; two sisters, Marlene Rivers of Cheshire and Carol Badore of East Windsor, Conn., and eight grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Ronald O. "Butch" Russell, who passed early Saturday morning on Feb. 26, 2005, at his home, where he wanted to be with his family by his side, will be Wednesday, March 2, at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor of St. Ann's Church in Lenox. Burial with full military honors will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St.

Besides his wife, Beverly, of almost 39 years, he leaves his legacy of four children, whom he loved and supported, Michael, Gary, Tammy Lee and Marie Julia Russell, and his eight loving grandchildren, Mitch, Christopher, Joshua, Leann, Maddy, Charlie Marie, Dominick and Jamie; a son-in-law, Douglas A. Golin; daughter-in-law, Patricia Russell; his beloved mother-in-law, Marie R. Massacani Kucka; his sisters-in-law, Rose Marie Dunham and Sharleen Kotski, and several nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed keeping everything meticulous and going to activities with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to OTB, Friday night poker games, dancing with style and the Dunkin' Donut crew on Dalton Avenue.
