Caroline Craig

Caroline Craig, 91, formerly of Melbourne Place, died yesterday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.
Born in Naples, Maine, on Aug. 17, 1913, daughter of Leonard and Cora Nutter Shipp, her family moved to Massachusetts and she was a 1931 graduate of Lexington High School.
She graduated in 1934 from the former New England Deaconess School of Nursing in Boston as a registered nurse. She enjoyed traveling and spent several years in Bend, Ore., and Yuma, Ariz.
She moved to Pittsfield in 2002.
Mrs. Craig worked for the former New England Deaconess Hospital for many years before working as a private-duty nurse. She also worked for several doctors in the eastern part of the state before retiring in 1968.
She was an accomplished pianist and violinist.
She enjoyed animals, especially dogs, and was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and the Alumni Association of New England Deaconess Hospital.
Her husband, James Burnett Craig, whom she married May 21, 1943, in Belmont, died Nov. 14, 2000.
She leaves a son, William D. Craig of Cheshire; a sister, Leonice Taft of Concord; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Caroline Craig, 91, was called safely home Feb. 15, 2005. In honoring Mrs. Craig's wishes, a service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
She is also survived by her cherished daughter-in-law, Rebecca L. Craig; devoted grandchildren, James M. Craig of Rochester, N.Y., Ethan D. Craig of Colorado Springs, Colo., and her two angels, Brein and Corben Craig, both of Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations in her name may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
