Virginia L. "Gini" Dubin

Virginia L. "Gini" Dubin, 44, of Pittsfield died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Born in Batavia, N.Y., on Feb. 16, 1960, daughter of Robert L. and Elaine V. Cameron Squier, she attended schools in Dover and Camden, Del., and graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in Camden in 1978. She moved to Pittsfield in 2000 from Woodside, Del.

Mrs. Dubin had been employed as a mortgage specialist by Countrywide Home Loans in West Springfield since 2002. She also had worked at Greylock Federal Credit Union as a senior mortgage servicing coordinator. While in Dover, she worked at Countrywide Home Loans, Chase Home Finance and Huntington Mortgage Co.

She was a member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) and rode an old-style slammed custom Harley-Davidson Fat Boy. She was an active member of the American Cancer Society's Cancer Survivor Network, an online community of cancer survivors, families and friends.

She was the only female member of the Northeast Fire Pit Crew, a group dedicated to the appreciation of fine cigars, food and beverages. She also was a multiyear sponsor of the group's Herf of All Herfs, an international charitable gathering of cigar smokers, which was held in Pittsfield in 2004. She also was a member of and frequent commentator at CigarFamily, an online community of cigar enthusiasts.

She and her husband, Derek L. Dubin, were married May 20, 2001.

Besides her parents, of Felton, Del., and husband, she leaves a son, Scott C. Squier of Pittsfield; a stepson, Peter A. Dubin of Pittsfield; a daughter, Rebeka A. Romanos of Pittsfield; two brothers, Gary W. Shamp of Wilmington, Ohio, and Charles E. Squier of Woodside, and her paternal grandmother, Anna Mae Squier of Henderson, Md.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A celebration of life for Virginia L. "Gini" Dubin, who died Feb. 3, 2005, will take place Saturday, Feb. 12, at 1 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, Feb. 11, from 6 to 8.

Omission of flowers is requested. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Survivorship Programs in care of the funeral home.
