David P. Andersen

David P. Andersen, 53, of 48 Windsor Ave. died Tuesday at GE Advanced Materials after being stricken at work there.
Born in Westfield on Dec. 1, 1951, son of Harold F. and Catherine Crean Andersen, he was educated in Westfield and in Pittsfield, where he was a 1969 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
He earned an associate's degree in computer science from Newbury College in 1971 and a bachelor's degree in computer science from the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, in 1983.
He served in the Army from 1972 to 1976.
A computer analyst for 32 years, Mr. Andersen was working in GE's security division and, for the past nine months, at United Parcel Services' International Division. He had earlier worked at GE in the 1980s, and at Crane & Co. in Dalton from 1989 to 2003.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a life member of Disabled American Veterans. An active community member, he was assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 1 for 15 years, and coached the Besse-Clarke Little League team and in the Summer City and the Fall YMCA soccer leagues.
While at Crane, he coordinated deep-sea fishing excursions to Gloucester. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and working around the house.
He and his wife, the former Sharon M. Lefkowitz, were married Aug. 17, 1974, in St. Mary's Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Kathryn E. Andersen, a student at Harvard University; two sons, Eric D. Andersen and Patrick J. Andersen, both of New York City; two sisters, Kathleen Arth of Falmouth and Ellen Erhard of Marston Mills, and three brothers, James Andersen of Pittsfield, and Neil Andersen and Edward "Ted" Andersen, both of Falmouth.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for David P. Andersen, 53, of Pittsfield, who died Feb. 8, 2005, will be held Saturday at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Dave will always be remembered for his care, dedication and loyalty to his family. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Andersen, and by a nephew, Ryan Andersen. He also leaves 17 nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boy Scout Troop 1 in care of First United Methodist Church, 55 Fenn St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
