Emil Trova

Emil Trova, 87, of 301 Springside Ave. died Saturday at home following a long illness.
Born in Wilmerding, Pa., on Oct. 19, 1917, son of Alexander and Margheriti Marcellino Trova, he moved to Italy in 1921 and returned in 1930. He attended Pittsfield schools, and participated in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Sandisfield and New Marlboro for 18 months.
He resided on Springside Avenue for 47 years.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with Company D, 254th Infantry Regiment, and saw action in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Germany. He served as a private from 1942 until June 18, 1945.
Mr. Trova had been employed by GE as an assembler in the power transformer department for 43 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, the Italian-American Club, where he enjoyed playing bocce, and a life member of VFW Post 448.
He was a former member of United Commercial Travelers. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, and making his own wine.
He and his wife, the former Joanne M. Griffin, were married Dec. 28, 1957, in New York.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Alec C. Trova of Pittsfield and Michael A. Trova of Waynesville, Mo.; a daughter, Tina L. Trova of Deerfield; a brother, Peter Trova of Norton; two sisters, Rose Nigrelli of Pittsfield and Angie Trombley of Pompano Beach, Fla., a granddaughter, and three stepgrandchildren. His stepson, William Keser, whom he raised, died Sept. 19, 2001.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- With respect for Mr. Trova's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Following cremation, graveside services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 10, at 10 at St. Joseph's Cemetery by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Those wishing to attend may meet inside the cemetery gate at 9:45. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mr. Trova will be greatly missed by his granddaughter, Samantha "Carrots" Trova, his three stepgrandchildren, Christine Keser of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Jenifer Keser of Las Vegas, and Aaron Keser of Dalton, and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Louis Trova of Florida, died Nov. 20, 2000.
