Eleanor B. Alexander

Eleanor B. Alexander, 91, formerly of Rolling Hills Condominiums, died Sunday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox.

Born in Pittsfield on June 13, 1913, daughter of John B. and Mary E. Canning Behan, she was educated in local schools and was a 1934 graduate of Trinity College in Washington, D.C.

An English teacher, Mrs. Alexander was employed for 22 years in the Pittsfield Public Schools, retiring in 1975. She worked at the former South and North junior high schools, now Herberg and Reid middle schools, respectively.

She also was on the faculty of the University of Arkansas for a short period.

She was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church.

She was a past president of the Berkshire County chapter of Trinity College Alumnae, a former member of Berkshire Medical Center's Auxiliary and Volunteers and the Pittsfield College Club, and a seven-year volunteer at the Berkshire County Red Cross chapter.

She also was a member of the national and Massachusetts teachers' associations.

Her husband, Robert F. Alexander, whom she married Feb. 25, 1943, died May 1, 1972.

She leaves a son, Robert J. Alexander of Avon, Colo., and a grandson.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Eleanor B. Alexander, age 91, was called safely home on Feb. 6, 2005. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:15 from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Teresa's Church by the Rev. John J. Varley, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 6 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Teresa's Church or to the Berkshire County Red Cross in care of the funeral home.

She is also survived by her grandson, Robert F. Alexander of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and her daughter-in-law, Ellen Bellandi-Alexander.

I've just been finding articles related to my grandmothers death and am sad I wasn't able to come to her funeral. Eleanor B Alexander you are missed dearly.
