Evelyn O. Middlebrook

Evelyn O. Middlebrook, 91, of 40 Sunset Ave. died yesterday at Kimball Farms Nursing Home.

Born in Pownal, Vt., on July 10, 1913, daughter of Murray and Bertha Smith Niles, she attended Williamstown High School and completed her training to be a licensed practical nurse at North Adams Hospital Nursing School.

Mrs. Middlebrook had been employed as a licensed practical nurse by the former Skoles Nursing Home for 12 years.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, was a Girl Scout leader and had taught Sunday school.

An avid knitter, she made afghans for all her grandchildren.

Her husband, Gerald Middlebrook, whom she married July 31, 1932, died Nov. 22, 1980.

She leaves two daughters, Susan Cutter of Stephentown, N.Y., and Mary Louise Coons of Lanesboro, 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Gerald D. Middlebrook, in 1976.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Evelyn O. Middlebrook will be Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at the Morningside Baptist Church at 2 with the Rev. Linda Shaw, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME. Memorial donations may be made to the Morningside Baptist Church in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

Among survivors are her grandchildren, Craig Coons, Peter Coons and his wife Debora, Michael Coons and his wife Judy, and Timothy Coons, Bruce Cutter and his wife Eillean, Geoffrey Cutter, Bryan Cutter, Marcia Anderson and her husband Ken, Richard Cutter, G. Douglas Middlebrook and his wife Christina, and William D. Middlebrook and his wife Lisa; her great-grandchildren, Sara, Nathan, Pamela, Johanna, Heather, Benjamin, Jayme Lynn, Christopher and Timothy Coons, April, Rebecca, Scott and Andrew Anderson, Shaun Knapp, Michelle, Jennifer, David, Christopher Danielle and Nicholas Cutter, Kristina, Patrick, Riley and Lucas Middlebrook, and two cousins, Norman and John Barber; son-in-law, G. Craig Coons, and daughter-in-law Charis Keeler.

She was also predeceased by her great-uncle, Dave Smith.
