Joseph James Borden Sr., 57, of 2683 State Road died Monday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield from injuries incurred on a job site that day in Peru.
Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 21, 1947, son of Theresa Mangiardi Borden of Pittsfield and the late Earl H. Borden, he was a 1965 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
A general contractor, Mr. Borden had been self-employed in the Pittsfield/Richmond area since 1994.
He also had owned and operated a pipeline contracting business in California. At one time, he had been a heavy equipment operator for Local 98.
He enjoyed motorcycle riding.
He and his wife, the former Donna E. Sperlonga, were married Sept. 3, 1966, in Mount Carmel Church.
Besides his mother and his wife, he leaves three sons, James J. Borden and Shaun M. Borden, both of Calimesa, Calif., and Joseph J. Borden Jr. of Richmond; two sisters, Theresa Borden of Ferrisberg, Vt., and Margaret Borden of Pittsfield; a brother, Earl H. Borden Jr. of Pittsfield, and nine grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Joseph James Borden Sr., who died Jan. 31, 2005, will be held Friday, Feb. 4, at 10:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 at St. Mark's Church by the Rev. John J. Varley.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St.
He is survived by his daughters-in-law, Cindy Borden and Carol Borden, and his nine grandchildren, Sean, Timber, Bryce, Joseph, Josh, Michael, Sierra, Forest and John.
