C. William "Bill" Strong

C. William "Bill" Strong, 68, of 14 Pease Ave. died Thursday at home.

Born in Shaftsbury, Vt., on Sept. 1, 1936, son of Jesse and Bessie Sisco Strong, he graduated from North Bennington High School, where he was a member of the band and baseball team, and also attended Berkshire Community College.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Strong was employed as an inspector with GE ordnance systems division for 37 years, retiring in 1994. Earlier, he worked as a laborer on the St. Lawrence Seaway.

He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a member of the Dalton American Legion.

He enjoyed crossword puzzles, traveling and sports, and was an avid Dodgers fan.

He leaves his wife, the former Margaret E. O'Brien, whom he married Oct. 8, 1960; two sons, Timothy M. Strong of Dalton and William B. Strong of North Harwich; a daughter, Janine A. Burt of Pittsfield; two brothers, Neal Strong of Shaftsbury, Vt., and Donald Strong of Coco Beach, Fla.; a sister, Dorcas Robinson of Framingham; three grandchildren and a stepgrandchild.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for C. William "Bill" Strong will be held Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 at 9:15 from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10, at St. Agnes' Church, 489 Main St., Dalton. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery, Dalton.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Strong may be made to the Dalton Ambulance and Rescue or to St. Agnes' Church Food Pantry in care of the funeral home.

Mr. Strong is also survived by his son-in-law, David Burt; a daughter-in-law, Jane Strong; three grandchildren, William Strong, Erin Strong and Connor Burt, and a stepgranddaughter, Caitlin Burt, as well as brothers-in-law Len Thornton and Michael O'Brien; sisters-in-law Donna Strong, Bridie Craig and Mary Thornton, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
