David H. Stedman, 67, of 423 East Housatonic St. died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Pittsfield on July 24, 1937, son of Harry P. and Charlotte H. Mason Stedman, he attended schools in Dalton.
Mr. Stedman was employed by Crane & Co. for 41 years, retiring as a warehouse foreman in 1995.
He formerly lived in Peru, where he served as a selectman and as police chief.
He enjoyed hunting and World War II history.
He and his wife, the former Lynn B. Durkee, were married March 11, 1955.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Scott David Stedman and Shane Douglas Stedman, both of Dalton; two daughters, Sherryl Dawn Stedman of Dalton and Sandra Dayne Arthur of Pittsfield; a sister, Carolyn M. Wiles of London, and seven grandchildren. Another daughter, Stacy Dian Stedman, died in 1964.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- At Mr. Stedman's request, there will be no funeral or calling hours. Among survivors are his grandchildren, Meaghan Nicole Stedman, Justin Thomas Stedman, Joshua Mason Stedman, Zachary Douglas Stedman, Aaron Christopher Stedman, Taylor James Stedman and Gary David Stedman.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Dalton Ambulance Fund in care of BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, which is in charge of arrangements.
