Beatrice Louise Driscoll

Beatrice Louise Driscoll, 94, formerly of 55 Herie Ave., died yesterday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox where she had resided since March 26, 2003.

Born Aug. 25, 1910, in Pittsfield, daughter of Henry E. and Florence Gildrie Slater, she attended schools in Pittsfield.

Mrs. Driscoll was employed by A.H. Rice Silk Mill for 30 years as a braid sewer, retiring in 1972.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was active in the Pittsfield Senior Center as an instructor of oil painting for more than 10 years.

Many of her paintings were on display in banks and doctors' offices in the area. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and knitting.

She was a self-taught, accomplished organist.

Her husband, William J. Driscoll, whom she married June 24, 1929, died Dec. 20, 1965.

She leaves a daughter, Lois A. Arnold of Ocala, Fla.; two brothers, Charles H. Slater and Carl E. Slater, both of Pittsfield; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Jean D. Fensch, died July 26, 1991.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Beatrice L. Slater Driscoll, who died Jan. 25, 2005, will be held Friday at 11:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon at All Souls' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, CSS, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Friday morning from 10:15 until 11:15 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to the Berkshire Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Driscoll is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by four sisters, Anna Phillips, Beulah Lawrence, Rose Poulton and Marie Slater.
