Bernard "Bernie" Snyder, 78, of 21 Hemlock Hill and Naples, Fla., died Thursday at Naples Community Hospital.
Born in Worcester, June 29, 1926, son of Archibald and Ruth Lubin Snyder, he came to Pittsfield as a child and attended local schools, graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1943.
He also graduated from DeVries Institute in Chicago.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served from 1943 to 1945 as a radioman 1st class in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
Mr. Snyder was the owner and operator of the former Pittsfield Supply Co. from 1950 until his retirement in 1988.
He was a member of Knesset Israel Synagogue and the Berkshire Hills Country Club.
He enjoyed all sports and was an avid golfer.
He and his wife, the former Barbara Bass, were married Sept. 4, 1949, in the former Gathering of Israel Synagogue on Linden Street, which is now Knesset Israel Synagogue.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Andrew Snyder of Sandisfield; a daughter, Ruth Waldheim of Pittsfield; a half-brother, Samuel Lubin of Pittsfield; two sisters, Mildred Novick and Sarah Udel, both of Pittsfield and four granddaughters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Bernard "Bernie" Snyder, 77, died Jan. 19, 2005. The funeral will be Sunday at 11:30 at the Knesset Israel Synagogue with Rabbi Lynn Lieberman, spiritual leader, officiating.
Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery. The family will receive friends during Shiva at the family home, 21 Hemlock Hill, Dalton, from 1 to 3 Monday through Thursday. If friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Knesset Israel Synagogue, in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield 01201.
He is lovingly survived by his granddaughters, Nicole and Alyssa Waldheim and Anna and Rosie Snyder; his son-in-law, Robert Waldheim, and daughter-in-law, Sandy Snyder.
