William Edmund Stafford Sr.

William Edmund Stafford Sr., 81, of 7 Broadview Terrace died yesterday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 1, 1923, son of Robert and Mary Molly Moynihan Stafford, he was a 1941 graduate of the former Dalton High School.
He also attended Berkshire Community College.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater for two years and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He received his commission in the infantry while in France and was discharged as a first lieutenant.
Mr. Stafford was employed by GE ordnance in Pittsfield, retiring in 1984 as manager of cost estimating after 37 years of service.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a member of the GE Elfun Society and Pensioners' and Quarter Century clubs.
He enjoyed woodworking, cross country skiing and reading, and was a Scout leader and junior basketball coach.
He and his wife, the former Charlotte Brusie, were married May 28, 1949, at St. Agnes' Church by his late brother, the Rev. Robert Stafford.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Maureen Chapdelaine of West Simsbury, Conn., and Eileen Shattuck of Trumbull, Conn.; a son, William E. Stafford Jr. of West Simsbury, and eight grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for William E. Stafford Sr., who died Jan. 18, 2005, will be celebrated Friday at 10 at St. Agnes' Church in Dalton by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor.
Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dalton Ambulance or the Dalton Police Department DARE Program in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, which is handling arrangements.
Mr. Stafford is lovingly survived by his eight grandchildren, Duncan and Meredith Stafford, Matthew, Katie and Nicole Chapdelaine, and Tamara, Julie and James Shattuck Jr.
