Franklin J. Putnam

Franklin J. Putnam, 83, of 126 Sadler Ave. died Sunday at home after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 28, 1921, son of William A. and Phalice Porter Putnam, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School's vocational department.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1944 to 1945.
Mr. Putnam was employed for 19 years by the Massachusetts Fish and Game Department, retiring in 1982. He was supervisor of construction and maintenance at the western district headquarters and of the Young Adult Conservation Corps, which he started in July 1978.
He also was a partner in Betters and Putnam Builders, which constructed many homes in Pittsfield.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.
He and his wife, the former Marjorie Studley, would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary May 30. They were married in St. Mary's rectory.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Franklin Putnam of Huntsville, Ala., Stephen Putnam of Lanesboro and David Putnam of Holyoke; two brothers, Winthrop Putnam of Pittsfield and Donald Putnam of Great Barrington, and two sisters, M. Eleanor Putnam and Elizabeth Putnam, both of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Franklin J. Putnam, who died Jan. 16, 2005, will be conducted Thursday at 1 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Charles Young.
Burial will be in Main Street Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be Thursday from 11 until the time of the service. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He was predeceased by two brothers, William A. and Charles M. Putnam, and three sisters, Alta Frenier, Esther McGuirt and Charlotte M. Putnam.
