Anthony Lawrence

Anthony Lawrence, 82, formerly of 289 Connecticut Ave., died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
He had resided at Craneville Place of Dalton since March 12, 2004, and, prior to that, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, from Feb. 10 to March 12.
Born in Pittsfield on May 30, 1922, son of John and Henrietta Coelho Lawrence, he attended schools in Pittsfield and was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1950 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, where he made the dean's list and received a bachelor of arts degree.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with Battery B, 923rd Field Artillery Battalion, from Oct. 29, 1942, to Feb. 15, 1946. He was discharged as staff sergeant.
Mr. Lawrence was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Pittsfield as a postal clerk for 31 years, retiring Sept. 1, 1984. He was formerly employed by GE and by Carr Hardware.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and enjoyed golfing, baseball and reading.
He leaves a brother, Sullivan W. Lawrence of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Anthony Lawrence, who died Jan. 15, 2005, will be tomorrow, Jan. 18, at 1 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Mary's Church celebrated by the Rev. Paul A. Bombardier, pastor.
Burial will be at a later date in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church in care of the funeral home.
