Arlene M. Rapkowicz

Arlene M. Rapkowicz, 76, formerly of Providence Court, died yesterday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox, where she had resided for three years.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 4, 1928, daughter of Williard W. and Rose Anna Plant Jenne, she was educated in local schools. She later obtained her GED.

Mrs. Rapkowicz was employed as a paraprofessional in the Pittsfield School System for 10 years, leaving in 1974 because of ill health. She had earlier worked at the former W.T. Grant store and at GE.

She also helped manage the former Heart of the Berkshires Motel during the winter.

She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church.

She enjoyed knitting, reading, watching movies and vacationing in Ogunquit, Maine. At one time, she volunteered at the bingo games at St. Mark's Church.

She leaves a daughter, Linda R. Avalle of Pittsfield, a son, William R. Rapkowicz of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Arlene M. Rapkowicz, 76, a longtime Pittsfield resident who died Jan. 8, 2005, will be Tuesday at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, pastor. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.

Arlene also leaves her loving grandsons, Jeffrey J. and Gregory F. Rapkowicz; her daughter-in-law, Roberta M. Rapkowicz, and her son-in-law, Bernard J. Avalle. She also leaves many loved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her six sisters, to whom she was devoted, Lena C. Goggia, Eva B. Tremblay, Louise B. Grandbois, Annmae Rufo, Lillian Brown and Dorothy M. Rocheleau. Arlene was very proud of her work as a paraprofessional with the Pittsfield Public Schools.

She enjoyed spending time with her family vacationing in Ogunquit, Maine, and she was also very proud of her achievement in obtaining her GED. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association or to Elder Services, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
