Katharine Hill, 84, of Highview Drive and of High Point Drive, Englewood, Fla., died Friday at the home of her daughter, Susan McMahon of 106 Oceanside Drive in Scituate, under the care of Hospice of the South Shore in Braintree.
Born in Flushing, N.Y., on May 1, 1920, daughter of Albert J. and Elsie Rudolph Lahr, she earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1942 from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
An Army veteran of World War II, she served as a nurse in the Pacific theater with the rank of first lieutenant.
A homemaker, Mrs. Hill worked as a public health nurse in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and Hartford, Conn., before her marriage.
Her husband, William T. Hill, founder of Hill Engineering in Dalton, whom she married in 1946, died July 20, 1985.
Besides her daughter, she leaves four other daughters, Kathryn Wade of Amarillo, Texas, Anne E. Hill of North Adams, Barbara J. Hill of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Patricia Hill-Zeigler of Amesbury; a brother, Albert J. Lahr of Geneva, N.Y., seven grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Friends may visit the family tomorrow, Jan. 11, from 4 to 7 at her daughter's home, 106 Oceanside Drive, Scituate. A memorial service for Katharine Hill, who died Jan. 7, 2005, will be held in Pittsfield at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Shore, 110 Bay State Drive, Braintree, MA 02185-9060 or to the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association, 165 Tor Court, Pittsfield, MA 01201. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.mem.com.
She leaves her grandchildren, Jonathan and Timothy Revett, Alexandra Hill, Devin, Conor and Katharine McMahon, and Sarah Zeigler, and two great-grandsons, Isaac and Solomon Revett.
