Jack Rawson

Jack Rawson, 80, of Hillcrest Commons, a former longtime resident of 220 Robbins Ave., died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center shortly after being admitted.

He was born in Lenox on May 30, 1924, son of Ivan Rawson Sr. and Meta Ruth Butler Rawson.

Mr. Rawson was a Merchant Marine who worked on ships and sailed around the world.

He was an iron worker and explosive specialist for over 30 years, working for various contractors in the area.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting, gardening, beekeeping, playing cards, and was a citizens band radio enthusiast. He also kept aquariums, which at one time totaled 20.

He received a Green Pastures award, a dairy farming prize, with his brothers in the 1940s when he worked on the family farm on Dublin Road in Richmond.

He leaves three sons, Jack Rawson Jr. and Thomas I. Rawson, both of Pittsfield, and Michael W. Rawson of Westboro; two daughters, Norma Lee Brown of Bakerfield, Calif., and Ruth A. Healey of Worcester; eight brothers, David Rawson, Arthur Rawson, William Rawson, Richard Rawson, and Ivan Rawson Jr., all of Richmond, Charles Rawson of Dalton, Donald Rawson of Lenox and Peter Rawson of East Chatham, N.Y.; two sisters, Judith Bullett of Richmond and Edith Turner of the state of Florida, 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE-- Jack Rawson, age 80, died Jan. 3, 2005. The funeral will be Friday at 2 at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. William Furey, officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.

There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Children Protective Services in care of the funeral home.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Roy and Frank Rawson, and two sisters, Ann Lyons and Doris Rawson.
