Joseph L. Skrocki, 87, of 4 Applewood Lane died Friday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where he had resided for two months.
Born in Adams on Aug. 15, 1917, son of Teofil and Julianna Doliwa Skrocki, he attended Adams schools.
He had lived in Pittsfield most of his life.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he guarded the Panama Canal.
Mr. Skrocki was employed by GE in the power transformer department, retiring in 1980 after 33 years of service. Earlier, he worked for the former Brightwater Paper Co. in Adams.
He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of the GE Pensioners' and Quarter Century clubs, Berkshire Hills Country Club and the Polish Falcons.
He was a hunter, golfer and fisherman.
His wife, the former Genevie Ciezar, whom he married Sept. 1, 1951, in Holy Family Church, died in 1994.
He leaves a daughter, Joann "Jody" Skrocki, with whom he resided before moving to the care facility; a brother, Fred "Kirp" Skrocki of Adams, and two sisters, Isabelle Richardson and Janet Yoddie, both of Adams.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mr. Joseph L. Skrocki died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004. Beloved uncle to Stanley Serafin and family and Susan Serafin. Mr. Skrocki loved spending time at the causeway. He also loved mushrooming with his daughter and niece. He enjoyed grocery shopping and making wreaths for family and friends at Christmastime. He enjoyed finding four-leaf clovers for his friends and family, and reading books, especially Westerns.
The funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 8:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at Holy Family Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Jan. 4, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holy Family Church CCD program or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
Mr. Skrocki also leaves many nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Skrocki in 2002. Following the committal in St. Joseph's Cemetery, everyone is invited to the Berkshire Hills Country Club.
