Dennis Thomas Durante

Dennis Thomas Durante, 85, of 51 Foote Ave. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Lee on March 21, 1919, son of Donato and Rose Slodyski Durante, he attended Lee schools.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1942 to 1943 with the 659th Anti-Aircraft Artillery.

Mr. Durante was employed by the Massachusetts Highway Department for 37 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing the accordion at social gatherings.

He was a fan of the Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

He and his wife, the former Josephine T. Canestro, were married May 16, 1953, in Mount Carmel Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Thomas D. Durante of Colchester, Conn., and Paul M. Durante of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Rosanne Cornwall of Melbourne, Fla., and Debra Trova of Pittsfield; a brother, John Durante of Pittsfield; a sister, Catherine Shaw of Lanesboro, and eight grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Private services for Dennis T. Durante, who died Jan. 1, 2005, will be held Wednesday, Jan. 5 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at noon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor.

Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Durante, and by two sisters, Angelina Virgilio and Theresa Lynch.
