Frank Kovacs

Frank Kovacs, 85, of 99 Chapel St. died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born on Sept. 14, 1920, he graduated from high school in Arizona.
A World War II veteran, he served from 1940 to 1947, first in the Merchant Marine for a year and a half, then in the Army for 5 1/2 years with the Infantry Coast artillery combat engineers, where he was a member of the military police.
An electrician, Mr. Kovacs was employed by the former May Engineering, TV Service and Machine Shop; by Western Massachusetts Electric Co. as a lineman; by Stapleton's Garage; by GE; by Hamilton Aircraft in Windsor Locks, Conn., and, most recently, by the former E.D. Jones and Beloit Jones, retiring in 1983.
He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and enjoyed judo and hunting.
His wife, the former Catherine Dowling, whom he married Sept. 8, 1944, died April 17, 1998.
He leaves two sons, Richard E. Kovacs of Atwater, Calif., and Paul F. Kovacs of Stephentown, N.Y.; three grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Frank Kovacs, who died Dec. 24, will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 30, at 11 at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor of St. Mark's Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Church in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., 01201.
He also is survived by his daughter-in-law, Cynthia (Mrs. Paul) Kovacs, his three grandchildren, Patty Rios and Mary Porter, both of Merced, Calif., and Richard Kovacs of Elido, Calif., and 10 great-grandchildren.
