Mary Frye Thompson

Mary Frye Thompson, 86, of 350 West St. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 14, 1918, daughter of Walter and Flora Greenleaf Wilbur, she attended local schools.

Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Thompson had been employed by GE for three years during the 1940s.

She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

An avid citizens' band radio operator, she was known as "Red Wagon." She also enjoyed fishing and collecting stuffed monkeys.

Her husband, Albert "Ike" Thompson, whom she married April 22, 1957, died June 1, 2000.

She leaves three daughters, June Lucido and Barbara Hanger, both of Pittsfield, and Evelyn Thompson of Los Angeles; a son, Donald W. Frye of Pittsfield; a sister, Eva Hood of Pittsfield, 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Mary Thompson, who died Dec. 18, 2004, will be conducted Thursday at 11 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church by her daughter, Evelyn Thompson, RScP, and the Rev. Gay Rahn.

Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 6 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.

She loved her dogs Bambi and Toby.
