Francesca M. Trapani

Francesca M. Trapani, 101, formerly of 10 Union St., died Thursday at Providence Care Center of Lenox, where she had resided since July 2002.

Born in Terranova, province of Reggio Calabria, Italy, on Nov. 22, 1903, daughter of Rocco and Angela Roda Mastroieni, she attended schools in Italy.

She emigrated to Pittsfield in 1927, and became a U.S. citizen in 1946.

Mrs. Trapani was a homemaker. She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of its Ladies' Guild, and a former member of its Rosary Society.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking, gardening, playing bingo, bowling and traveling to Italy.

Her husband, Bruno D. Trapani, whom she married Dec. 23, 1923, died Nov. 5, 1960.

She leaves five sons, Anthony F. Trapani, Dominick V. Trapani and Mario J. Trapani, all of Pittsfield, Rocco Trapani of Benton, La., and Joseph V. Trapani of Heathrow, Fla.; a brother, Rocco Mastroieni of Bradbury, Australia; three sisters, Antonietta Bozzone of San Biaggio, Italy, Salvatora Zinnato of Tauriannova, Italy, and Rosetta Romeo of Caringbah, Australia; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. Another son, John J. Trapani, died Sept. 21, 1990.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Francesca M. Trapani will be Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor.

Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, Dec. 20, from 4 to 7. The Mount Carmel Ladies' Guild will meet at the funeral home at 5:30 for a Vigil Service. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, Lisa, Mark, Bruce, Christopher, Joseph Jr., James, Michael and Christine Trapani, Sharon Ferry, Rosanne Waananen, Francesca Gordon, Robin Blair, Andrea Brinkman and Gina Strout; 18 great-grandchildren, Jefferey, Nicholas, Travis, Rebecca, Christine, Alyssa and Nicholas M. Trapani, Jon, Keith and Mark Ferry, Erik and Audrey Waananen, Candice Cathart, Julia and Kristofer Strout, Jessie and Cory Burchill, and Thatcher Blair; a great-great-grandchild, Kelsey Blair, and five daughters-in-law, Ersilia, Helen, Marie, Donna and Philina Trapani.

Francesca's main interest in life were her family, relatives and friends. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild brought her many hours of happiness. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Mastroieni, and by two sisters, Carmella Romeo and Genoveffa Vigoiarolo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Carmel Church or Berkshire County Arc in care of the funeral home.
