John Joseph Donovan

John Joseph Donovan, 83, of 16 Noble Ave. died Saturday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on July 26, 1921, son of James E. and Winifred Leahy Donovan, he was a 1940 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
He also studied dental technology in Boston.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a pharmacist's mate, third class.
Mr. Donovan was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk in the Pittsfield post office for many years. He retired in the 1980s. He also made dentures for local dentists.
An active communicant of St. Joseph's Church, he served on the Parish Council and on other committees.
He enjoyed playing golf and cards, and was a Red Sox fan.
His wife, the former Alice Ruby Hansen, whom he married Dec. 4, 1948, died Sept. 4, 2002.
He leaves six daughters, Diane Ziemlak of Cheshire, Deborah Donovan of Broadbrook, Conn., Patricia Donovan of Ellington Conn., Doreen Donovan of Richmond, Margaret "Peg" Donovan of Lenoir City, Knoxville, Tenn., and Laura Najimy of Pittsfield; three sons, John J. Donovan Jr. of Leominster, and Michael Donovan and David Donovan, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Robert T. Donovan of Austin, Texas, and 21 grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for John J. Donovan, 83, who died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, will be held Wednesday at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Dec. 14, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations by made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St.
He was predeceased by two brothers, James E. and William Paul Donovan, and by two sisters, Mary Kate Kelly and Patricia Donovan.
