Sidney Jaffe, 88, of 176 Columbus Ave., Berkshiretown Apartments, died Saturday morning at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 14, 1916, son of Louis and Lillian Levine Jaffe, he was a 1933 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served from 1943 to 1946 in Newport, R.I., as a ship's cook, first mate.
Mr. Jaffe and his late brother, Harold Jaffe, owned and operated the former Meat Center on Newell Street, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of Congregation Knesset Israel and enjoyed wintering in Boca Raton, Fla.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, the former Ann Gruberg; a daughter, Arlene S. Jaffe of New York City; a son, Gary M. Jaffe of San Francisco, and two sisters, Ada Klein of Pittsfield and Grace Thierfeld of Hartford, Conn.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Sidney Jaffe, 88, died Dec. 2, 2004. The funeral will be today, Dec. 6, at 1:30 at Knesset Israel Synagogue, with Rabbi Lynn Lieberman, spiritual leader, officiating.
Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Harold Jaffe and Albert Jaffe.
