Jean E. Moran Colby

Jean E. Moran Colby, 80, of 56 Pollock Ave. died Wednesday at home.

Born in Housatonic on Sept. 21, 1924, daughter of Eugene and Julia Dunn Bourquard, she was educated in local schools and was a 1942 graduate of Searles High School in Great Barrington.

Mrs. Colby was employed by the Pittsfield Boys' and Girls' Club as an administrative assistant for many years, leaving in 1973. Earlier she worked for General Electric in Pittsfield as a secretary.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed knitting and cooking for her family and friends.

Her first husband, Augustine J. "Jim" Moran, died July 6, 1964.

Her husband, John "Jack" Colby Jr., whom she married June 2, 1973, in St. Agnes' Church in Dalton, died Nov. 13, 2004.

She leaves a daughter, Julie A. Moran Cain of Whitesboro, N.Y.; two sons, James A. Moran and Joseph A. Moran, both of Pittsfield; a stepdaughter, Jayne E. Colby DeAngelis of Cheshire; a stepson, John "Rick" Colby of Virginia Beach, Va.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Jean E. Moran Colby, 80, was called safely home on Nov. 24, 2004. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11 in Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery in Housatonic. Jean will always be remembered by her daughters-in-law, JoAnne Moran and Brenda Almy; son-in-law, Ronald DeAngelis; her grandchildren, Todd and Derek DeAngelis, Katherine, Michael and Audrey Moran, Diana, Joseph and Chris Colby, Erin Huggins, Michael, Megan, and Eileen Cain, Sabrina Twinning Branchesi and her extended family, Patrick Huggins, Stephen Sheldon and Amy Moran. Her six angels, Emily and Madison Huggins, Zoe Moran, Alixandrea and Angela Tremont and Jade Wynter Colby.

She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Victor and Mildred Laurin Bourquard and Joseph and Wanda Kobos Bourquard, and a son-in-law, Edward Stephen Cain, who died Aug. 19, 2000. Donations in her memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
