Concetta Penna

November 25, 2004

Concetta Penna, 100, formerly of Providence Court Apartments, died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided since August 1999.

Born in Polia, province of Catanzaro, Italy, on Sept. 19, 1904, the daughter of Antonio and Angela Anello Malta, she attended schools in Italy and came to the United States in 1947.

Mrs. Penna was employed in the laundry and dietary departments of the former St. Luke's Hospital, retiring in 1970.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and enjoyed crocheting, cooking, sewing and making afghans, which she donated to friends and family.

Her husband, Frank C. Penna, died Sept. 2, 1960.

She leaves two nephews, Anthony Salatino and John Salatino, both of Pittsfield; two nieces, Marianna Penna and Angelina Mangiardi, both of Pittsfield, and nine nephews and nieces in Italy. She was predeceased by a daughter, Antonia Penna.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Concetta Malta Penna will take place Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, celebrated by the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor of St. Mark's Church in Pittsfield and great-nephew of Mrs. Penna.

Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., will be Monday, Nov. 29, from 11:30 to 12:30. Survivors include her nieces and nephews in Italy, Angelina Malta, Antonio Malta, Antonio "Toto" Malta, Pasquale Malta, Nazzareno Malta, Umberto Malta, Giuseppe Malta, Immacolata Malta and Franca Malta. She is also survived by many great nieces, great nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Domenico Malta, Giuseppe Malta and Francesco Malta; two sisters, Caterina Salatino and Elisabetta Priamo, and two nephews, Paolo Priamo and Joseph Salatino. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Church Food Pantry or Mount Carmel Church Food Pantry in care of the funeral home.
