George Carson Lennox

George Carson Lennox, 85, formerly of Pittsfield, died Thursday.
Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 18, 1919, son of John and Lillian Mason Lennox, he was educated in Pittsfield schools.
He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a pilot in World War II, ferrying supplies into the former Yugoslavia from Italy and bringing out the wounded.
An engineer by training, he was employed at Westinghouse and later as the head of the engineering department at American Safety Razor in Verona, Va. He later began teaching business and economics at Blue Ridge Community College and was honored as Teacher of the Year during one term.
He taught for 30 years, retiring as professor emeritus, and entered a doctorate program, earning his doctorate of business administration at 84.
Upon moving to Waynesboro, Va., he served on the City Council there and as vice mayor, and was also deacon of First Presbyterian Church there.
He was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Waynesboro-East Augusta County, and for many years ran in a marathon at the Fall Foliage Festival, winning his age category of 60 and over.
He served as an adviser to U.S. Rep. J. Kenneth Robinson and as a Virginia state delegate to two national Republican conventions.
He was also an active and primary partner in the development of several housing subdivisions and properties in the Waynesboro area.
He leaves his wife, the former Katherine McCormick; a daughter, Bonnie Williams of Hanover, Pa.; a son, George Lennox of Winter Park, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Jennell Piplico Charles of Alexandria, Va.; a stepson, Andrew Piplico of Williamsburg, Va., and five grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- George Carson Lennox loved people, his dog, Duke, his goldfish and life itself. He was an inspiration to his family and friends and will be missed greatly by us all. At this Thanksgiving time, we give thanks for his life.
A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Gary Charles and the Rev. Candi Vernon. Burial will be private.
