Lillian V. Belair, 82, of 44 Watson Road died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on June 11, 1922, daughter of Edward and Viola Rondeau Belair, she was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School, where she excelled at sports.
A Navy veteran of World War II, she enlisted in the WAVES in 1944 and was stationed at U.S. Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Va. She was honorably discharged as an aviation machinist's mate, second class, in 1946 and spent several more years in the Naval Reserve.
Ms. Belair was employed by GE for more than 38 years, retiring in 1981 as a design draftsman.
She was a former communicant of Notre Dame Church and a longtime member of the Wahconah Country Club.
A star athlete in the 1940s, she played for YMCA and Pro Drug teams, including a basketball team that won New England AAU championships six consecutive years and of which she was most valuable player, and a state champion softball team.
Her other achievements included city, state and club championships in golf, bowling, speed skating, tennis and fencing. She won the women's championship of the annual GE golf tournament five consecutive years, and had played in a tournament this past summer.
She leaves a sister, Bea Pagerey of Pittsfield, and a brother, Richard Belair of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Lillian V. Belair, 82, who died, Nov. 22, 2004, will be Saturday, Nov. 27, at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. James Joyce, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Lillian will be lovingly missed by her three nieces and four nephews.
