Albert Joseph Cetti

Albert Joseph Cetti, 78, of 14 Calumet St. died Wednesday morning at Hillcrest Commons Nursing Center, where he had resided for three weeks.
He had lived on Calumet Street since 1957.
Born in State Line village in the town of West Stockbridge on March 24, 1926, son of Phillip and Assunta Delmolino Cetti, he was educated in Canaan, N.Y., and Massachusetts schools until entering the service at the age of 17.
A World War II veteran, he served in the Navy aboard a PT boat in the southwest Pacific with a motor torpedo squadron. He was credited with sinking a heavily armed barge containing 5,000 tons of enemy cargo, and was the recipient of various medals and accommodations.
A master mason for 50 years, Mr. Cetti had been employed by George E. Emerson and by Joseph Francese Inc., as well as other local and out-of-town contractors. He retired in 1991.
He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and a past member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was also a member of Laborers Union Local 20, which then merged with Local 1 of Springfield.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed ice fishing, fly-fishing and hunting.
He also enjoyed traveling and gardening.
He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy D. Nykorchuk, whom he married Aug. 30, 1947, in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Pittsfield.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Nancy A. Zaorski and Kathy A. Hermanski, both of Pittsfield; a brother, John P. Cetti of Agawam; a sister, Doris Merriam of Dalton, seven grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for ALBERT JOSEPH CETTI, who died Wednesday, Nov. 17, will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, at 8:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Charles' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Mr. Cetti leaves us his courage and wisdom, his insurmountable strength and, most of all, his love of life. He will be sadly missed by his family and his seven grandchildren, Alissa Weigand, Laura Groves, Sarah Hermanski, Jeffrey Hermanski, Jodi Hermanski, Ashley Hermanski, Lindsay Hermanski; his two great-granddaughters, Mya Corkins and Sophia-Marie Groves, as well as his two sons-in-law, Chester Zaorski and James Hermanski, and many nieces and nephews.
He also leaves his special little companion, "Cassie," his grand dog. He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Cetti may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires or to St. Charles' Church, both in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
