Edward Vinton Knight

Edward Vinton Knight, 94, of Westminster Canterbury retirement community in Richmond, Va., formerly of 20 Nielsen Lane, died Saturday at home.
Born in New Haven, Conn., on April 4, 1910, son of the Rev. Franklin Knight and Gertrude Mosher Knight, he was a 1927 graduate of Holyoke High School and a 1931 graduate of Yale University, where he was a member of the glee club and choir.
He moved from Kimball Farms to Richmond in 1997.
Mr. Knight was employed as a technical writer and later as a marketing specialist in the power transformer department of GE in Pittsfield, retiring in 1975. He had earlier taught in Changsha and Hunan for Yale-in-China, and taught English and Latin at Darrow School in New Lebanon, N.Y.
An accomplished musician, he played the piano, organ and cello and was active in musical ensemble groups in the Berkshires, including playing cello in the former Pittsfield Symphony. He taught double bass at the former Pittsfield Community Music School.
He was organist at St. Helena's Chapel and at St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Stockbridge's summer chapel in Otis, where he also was a warden for many years.
He was active in the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts, serving as lay reader and member of the vestry in his parish, Trinity Church, and as a delegate to the Diocesan Convention. He served on the nominating committee for bishop in 1970, as well as on several mission committees of the diocese and of Trinity Church.
He and his wife, the former Lois Hathaway Upton, were named Parishioners of the Year by Trinity in 1975. He also was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Richmond.
He was active in the community, including serving on the Monument Mountain Regional School Board during the building of the high school in the late 1960s.
His wife, whom he married June 23, 1939, died July 29, 1997.
He leaves a daughter, Sylvia Knight of Charlotte, Vt.; a son, the Rev. David Hathaway Knight of Richmond, and two stepgrandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Edward V. Knight, who died Nov. 13, 2004, will be conducted tomorrow, Nov. 17, at 11 at St. Stephen's Church in Richmond, Va. Services in Lenox will be held Friday, Nov. 19, with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 10 in the chapel of Trinity Church, Lenox, with the Rev. Stephen Booth, officiating.
Committal will follow at 11:15 in Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox. Donations may be made to St. Helena's Chapel, 245 New Lenox Road, Lenox, MA 01240 or to Trinity Church, 88 Walker St., Lenox, MA 01240, or to St. Paul's Church, P.O. Box 365, Otis, MA 01253.
