Isabelle Sofia Godek, 95, formerly of 24 Profile St. Lanesboro, died yesterday morning at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield.
Born in Adams on Jan. 15, 1909, daughter of Frank and Zofia Owczarski Godek, she graduated from the former Adams High School in 1927 and from the former Henry W. Bishop School of Nursing in Pittsfield in 1934.
She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Fordham University in New York and received her master of science in nursing from Catholic University in Washington. She also received a certificate from the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psycho-analysis and Psychology in New York City after completing a five-year course of study there.
Miss Godek taught nursing at St. John's University on Long Island and became assistant director of psychiatric nursing at St. Vincent's Hospital of Harrison, N.Y. Later, she was the director of psychiatric nursing at St. Peter's Hospital in Troy, N.Y., where she worked until her retirement 30 years ago.
She taught part-time at several nursing schools following her retirement.
She was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Pittsfield.
She was a former communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Adams, where she was a member of St. Cecelia's Choir there.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Isabelle Sofia Godek will be held on Monday, Nov. 15, at 10:30 from the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of St. Stanislaus Kostka and Notre Dame & St. Thomas Aquinas, Adams.
Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Monday from 9 to 10:30 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stanislaus' Church or to the Physicians' Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, D.C., through the funeral home. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Godek of Adams; three nieces, Dorothy Kelly of New Ashford, Patricia Pieropan of Sunland, Calif., and Barbara Thurberg of Guilford, Conn.; three nephews, Richard Godek of Scottsdale, Ariz., Edward Godek of Melbourne, Australia and Gerald Godek of North Adams, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Frank Godek, Waldemar Godek and A. Edward Godek, and a sister, Mary Godek.
