Vincent W. Cancilla

Vincent W. Cancilla, 89, of 20 Flintstone Drive died Saturday at home.

Born in Boston on July 26, 1915, son of Mariano C. and Angela Mazzola Cancilla, he was a 1934 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a first lieutenant in Europe.

Mr. Cancilla was employed by the former Jones-Beloit Corp. in Dalton as a mechanical engineer for 39 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church.

He and his wife, the former Yolanda Campoli, were married June 5, 1948, at Mount Carmel Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Elisabeth C. Wills of Glendora, Calif.; two brothers, Dr. Michael Cancilla of Pittsfield and Ernest Cancilla of Lancaster, S.C., and two sisters, Angela Cancilla and Mayme Carchedi, both of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Vincent W. Cancilla, 89, of Pittsfield, who died Nov. 13, 2004, will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. He was predeceased by five brothers, Jack, Anthony, Salvatore, Natale and Joseph Cancilla.

He also leaves many nieces and nephews. The omission of flowers is requested, and memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church or HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, which is in charge of arrangements.
