Elmer H. Wisbaum

Elmer H. Wisbaum, 95, died yesterday morning at Kimball Farms.
Born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., on Sept. 5, 1909, son of Ida and Louise Wisbaum, he was a graduate of Niagara University and received a master of science degree from the University of Michigan.
An Army veteran of World War II, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge, where he earned a Bronze Star.
After the service, Mr. Wisbaum purchased a hardware store in Buffalo, N.Y., which he owned and operated for 40 years. Before the service, he taught physics and chemistry at Niagara Falls High School.
He moved to the Berkshires in 1986.
He was an active member of Temple Anshe Amunim. An expert bridge player, he taught bridge in college and in the Army. Upon moving to the Berkshires, he enjoyed meeting new people and participating in the Jewish Federation activities.
He taught chess to children in local schools, where his daughters were educators. An avid reader, he was a frequent visitor to the Lenox and Pittsfield libraries.
His wife, the former Hornice Ann Cohen, whom he married July 7, 1940, died June 26, 1986.
He leaves two daughters, Aileen Bliss of Stockbridge and Maxine Wisbaum Hubacker of Pittsfield, three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Elmer Wisbaum will be held in Niagara Falls, N.Y. A loving family man, he is survived by his grandsons, David Bliss and his wife Carol, Jason Bliss and his wife Jennifer, Eric Bliss and his fiancee Liz Collins; two sons-in-law, Dr. Al Bliss and Nick Hubacker, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the local chapter of Alzheimer's Association. He was predeceased by his siblings, Franklin, Samuel, Jacob, Joseph and Albert Wisbaum and Mollie Cohen.
