Margery M. Flynn

Margery M. Flynn, 84, formerly of Proprietor's Fields in Williamstown, died Saturday at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided since October 2000.

Born in Pittsfield on June 14, 1920, daughter of William G. and Madeline Waugh Mann, she was a 1938 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She earned a bachelor of science degree, cum laude, in nutrition sciences from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1942.

She also completed training at Berkshire Medical Center in the 1960s in its medical technology school in microbiology. She had resided in Williamstown for 15 years prior to moving to the nursing facility.

After college, Mrs. Flynn worked as a federal food inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Baltimore. A microbiologist, she was employed by the former St. Luke's and Pittsfield General hospitals for 10 years, retiring in the late 1970s.

She was active with the UMass Alumni Association and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, crafts, going on nature walks, watching parades and marching bands and going on boat rides on Lake George. She also was a dog lover.

She leaves a daughter, Courtney J. Kenyon of Pittsfield; a son, Thomas C. Farrell III of San Diego; a sister, Letitia H. MacDonald of Pittsfield; a brother, William C. Mann of Holyoke; a grandson and three stepgrandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Margery M. Flynn, 84, formerly of Williamstown, died Oct. 30, 2004. At Margery's request, following cremation a private memorial service will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society Building Fund or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is in charge of arrangements.
