Richard Francis Benham

Richard Francis Benham, 77, of 73 Paul Ave. died Sunday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Fort Edward, N.Y., on July 4, 1927, son of Enos and Laura Paquette Benham, he was educated in New York State schools.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served from 1944 to 1946.

Mr. Benham was a 911 dispatcher for the Pittsfield Fire and Police departments for 18 years. He retired in 1998 but continued to work part time. Before that, he worked at the former First National Supermarket for 35 years, managing stores in Pittsfield, Adams and Great Barrington.

He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and a Red Sox fan.

He and his wife, the former Rosaline "Cookie" Cornellier, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary Oct. 9. They were married in Notre Dame Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Linda Rando of Richmond, Paula J. McLean of Pittsfield and Michelle Moran of Scotia, N.Y.; two brothers, Arthur L. Benham of Pittsfield and Roger Benham of Liverpool, N.Y.; three granddaughters, and a great-granddaughter.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Richard F. Benham, who died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, will be Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor, and by Mr. Benham's nephew, the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor of St. Ann's Church in Lenox.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

Mr. Benham also leaves three granddaughters, Amy and Lisa Rando, and Trinity Raifstanger, and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Rose Raifstanger.
