Evelyne W. McClelland, 87, of 86 Lincoln St. died Friday evening at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 22, 1917, daughter of Lester E. and Florence E. Maxwell Farnham, she attended Lee schools and graduated from Lee High School.
She later retired to Puerto Rico, then Seminole, Fla., until moving to Pittsfield in the late 1990s.
Mrs. McClelland and her late husband, George McClelland, purchased the Lee News Room in the early 1970s and operated it until retiring in the mid-1980s. In her youth, she had worked in the wool factory in Housatonic.
She was a former member of the Lee Grange and, in the 1950s, was an instructor for the Lenox Dale 4-H Club. She enjoyed flowers, bird watching and her butterfly collection.
While in Florida, she attended the Arthur Murray Dance Studios and was in dance competitions throughout the United States and Canada.
Her first husband, whom she married July 4, 1939, died Oct. 15, 1987.
Her husband, John Farina, whom she married in June 2000, died June 5, 2001.
She leaves four sons, Douglas F. McClelland of Sand Lake, N.Y., Thomas G. McClelland of Pittsfield, Donald N. McClelland of West Stockbridge and Robert W. McClelland of Springfield, Ohio; a sister, Ruth Adams of Lee, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Evelyne W. McClelland, who died Oct. 15, 2004, will be conducted Monday at 3 at Southview Cemetery in North Adams. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 12:30 until 2 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee.
Friends wishing may make donations to the West Stockbridge Grange Hall in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. Mrs. McClelland also leaves several nieces and nephews.
