Rose Najmy

Rose Najmy, 78, of East Main Road, Portsmouth, R.I., formerly of White Plains, N.Y. and Lenox, died Monday at Newport Hospital in Newport, R.I.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Feb. 10, 1926, she was the daughter of Philip and Mary Sherbrekh Farran. After World War II, she attended Parsons School of Design, where she studied art and interior design.
Mrs. Najmy started working by sewing at age 15 in a handbag factory in New York City, then during World War II sewed parachutes for the Air Force.
In 1980, she co-founded Home Textures, an interior renovation company based in Great Barrington. In 1983, she purchased and developed properties in Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island.
In 1954, she moved to White Plains and started an interior design company.
She worked for clients such as American Can, IBM, Bulova Watch and Ciba-Geigy as well as residential projects. In 1968, she expanded by starting Certified Draperies, a manufacturing company in Mount Vernon, N.Y.
Her design background led to her partnership in Nuway Kitchen Showrooms in 1972, where she built trade showrooms and developed a countertop and cabinet manufacturing business.
She leaves two sons, Joseph E. Najmy of New Canaan, Conn., and Stephan P. Najmy of Portsmouth; three brothers, George Farran and James Farran, both of Brooklyn, and Louis Farran of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; two sisters, Leona Borday of Jamestown, R.I., and Gloria Farran of Brooklyn, and seven grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at 8:30 from the MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
Burial will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to the Diabetes Foundation Of RI, 209 Cottage St., Pawtucket, RI 02860. She was the sister of the late Victor Farran and Josephine Sheredos.
