Alexander A. Borelli Sr

Alexander A. Borelli Sr., 89, of 379 East St., Providence Court, a former resident of 52 Wellington Ave., died Tuesday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Hudson, N.Y., on Nov. 1, 1914, son of Antonio and Cora Minicello Borelli, he moved to Pittsfield as a child and attended local schools.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1942 to 1946 as a corporal with the 599th Bombardment Squadron, where he was a toxic gas handler. He had a 30-month tour through England, France, Belgium and Germany.
He was awarded the Purple Heart and several campaign ribbons and medals.
Mr. Borelli was employed by GE as a machinist in the ordnance department for 37 years, retiring in 1977. He was also shop steward for 25 years for IUE Local 254. He worked part-time at Eastover Resort as a prep cook and bartender and as a bartender at the Italian-American Club.
He was a member of the GE Quarter-Century and Pensioners clubs and the Italian-American Club, where he served as a trustee.
He enjoyed horse racing, OTB, and was an avid Red Sox fan.
His wife, the former Eleanor White, whom he married Sept. 11, 1942, died Feb. 3, 1997.
He leaves five sons, Wayne A. Borelli of Denver, N.C., Dennis A. Borelli of Modesto, Calif., Alex A. Borelli Jr. of Holyoke, Mark V. Borelli and Paul D. Borelli, both of Pittsfield; a daughter, Diane M. French of Milpitas, Calif., 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Alexander A. Borelli Sr., age 89, died Oct. 12, 2004. Calling hours will be today, Thursday, from 4 to 8 at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be Friday at 9:15 from the funeral home with a Liturgy of Christian burial at 10 at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Elder Services in care of the funeral home. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Borelli, and two sisters, Madeline Rawling and Margaret Francis.
