Robert Douglas "Doug" Kimple

Robert Douglas "Doug" Kimple, 63, of 1012 West Road died Monday evening at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a two-year battle with lung cancer.

Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 14, 1941, son of Lawrence R. Kimple Sr. and Hazel M. Paro Kimple, he was a 1958 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also attended classes at the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, Conn., and the American International College in Springfield.

Mr. Kimple owned and operated H.V. Rabouin Inc., a transportation company, and Under Mountain Truck Sales, a dealer of Western Star Tractors. He also raised Morgan horses at Hunter Hill Farm that are trained by Sebring Stables.

He was on the Richmond Recreation Board and the Southern Berkshire Softball League. An Eagle Scout in his youth, he was a Scout leader in Richmond. He was also a member of the American Morgan Horse Association and the Hackney Pony Association.

His true passion was driving his horses. In addition, he enjoyed fishing and doing crossword puzzles, and was a fan of the Red Sox.

He and his wife, the former Sandra J. Rabouin, were married Aug. 8, 1960.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Steven D. Kimple of New Lebanon, N.Y.; a daughter, Laura J. Mitchell of Dover, N.H.; a brother, Lawrence R. Kimple Jr. of Richmond, and two grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Robert Douglas Kimple will be Friday at 10:30 at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Irene Jones, pastor of the Richmond Congregational Church, officiating.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the American Cancer Society, HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the Richmond Congregational Church in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

He also leaves his son's fiancée, Amy L. Neifert; his mother-in-law, Edna R. Rabouin of Hancock; two sisters-in-law, Sue A. White of Hancock and Joan D. Kimple of Richmond; two grandchildren, Collin D. and Cori L. Kimple of Richmond; a nephew, Scott W. Kimple of Pittsfield; a niece, Gwen A. Buchinski of Bolton; two great-nephews and one great-niece, Adam Buchinski, Trace Kimple and Alison Buchinski, as well as many wonderful true and close friends.
