Wayne Galey

Wayne Galey, 88, of Genesis Pointe, Fla., formerly of Lenox, died Sunday at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla.
Born in Hillsville, Pa., on April 3, 1916, son of Percy and Eva Matilda Galey, he graduated from Indiana Institute of Technology in 1949.
A World War II navy veteran, he was stationed on the USS Gambier Bay, which was sunk Oct. 25, 1944 during the Battle of Leyte Gulf off the island of Samar in the Philippine Sea.
He was a Purple Heart recipient.
Mr. Galey was employed at the Peter J. Schweitzer division of Kimberly-Clark Corp. in Lee until his retirement in 1980, and before that he worked for The United States Rubber Co. in Naugatuck, Conn., until 1963.
He resided in Lenox until 1992 when he moved to Lake Wales, Fla., where he was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Lake Wales and Kiwanis Club and enjoyed gardening.
In April 2004, he relocated to Genesis Pointe.
His first wife, Virginia, died in 1999.
He leaves his wife, the former Julia Irene Murphy, whom he married in December 2000; two sons, Richard E. Galey of Varnville, S.C. and the Rev. Paul W. Galey of Mercersburg, Pa.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Wayne Galey will be held Friday, Oct. 15, 2004 at 10 at the JOHNSON FUNERAL HOME, 322 North Scenic Highway, Lake Wales, Fla., with the Rev. Paul Wayne Galey and the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow at 2 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
