Josephine Caroline Testa, 78, of Manhattan, N.Y., a native of Pittsfield, died Wednesday at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she was admitted Sept. 9.
Born on Dec. 22, 1925, the daughter of Angelo and Giovanna Casali Testa, she was a 1942 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1944 graduate of the executive secretary program at Katharine Gibbs School in Providence, R.I.
She also took courses at Boston College and at Boston and Fordham universities.
Miss Testa served with the Navy WAVES until accepting a position as secretary to the director of the former Pittsfield Community Music School.
She also worked for the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra Inc.
In 1968, she became employed by Avon Products Inc. in New York City, retiring after 20 years as executive secretary to the senior vice president of marketing.
She was a communicant of St. John's Church in New York.
Miss Testa enjoyed traveling, classical music and visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and was an accomplished watercolor artist.
She leaves a sister, Angelina G. Testa of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private funeral for Josephine "Jo" Testa, who died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield.
Per her request, there will be no calling hours. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Lena A. Testa, in 2003. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is handling funeral arrangements.
