Dora Gertrude Armstrong, 86, of 53 Curtis Terrace died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in East Chatham, N.Y., on Jan. 10, 1918, daughter of Ollie and Mary Emma Hoag Wheeler, she attended schools in Pittsfield and was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
A homemaker, Mrs. Armstrong was employed at GE as a stenographer and telephone-telegraph operator from 1937 until 1939.
She enjoyed gardening, crafts, painting, traveling, reading and researching family genealogy.
Her husband, Joseph R. Armstrong Sr., whom she married Oct. 14, 1939, died Feb. 18, 1988.
She leaves two sons, Richard B. Armstrong of Pittsfield, with whom she resided, and John R. Armstrong of Arizona; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Another son, Joseph Robert Armstrong Jr., died March 21, 2003.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Dora G. Armstrong, who died Sept. 12, 2004, will be private. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Lung Association in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield 01201, which is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Armstrong is lovingly survived by three grandchildren, Michael J. and Patrick A. Armstrong and Cherye Armstrong; by her three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Anne Marie and Halley Lynn, and several cousins.
