Gabriel "Bill" Albano, 75, of 10 Union St. died Monday at Hillcrest Commons after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 10, 1929, son of James and Margaret Candilore Albano, he attended local schools.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he received several medals.
At the time of his death, Mr. Albano had been manager of Union Court Apartments for 10 years. He had been employed as a printer for Ben Franklin Press & Hamilton Press, located in New York state. He also worked for a short time at GE.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
He enjoyed cooking, traveling, sports and was a fan of the Red Sox.
He was a member of the Rainbow Club of Pittsfield.
He leaves a brother, Donald T. Albano of Austin, Texas, and three sisters, Josephine Jakacky of North Scituate, R.I., and Nancy A. Leone and Frances A. Devanny, both of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Gabriel "Bill" Albano will take place Thursday, Aug. 26, at 8 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 at St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Aug. 25, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Bill enjoyed his family. Survivors include two brothers-in-law, David A. Leone and James J. Devanny, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. At the time of Bill's passing, he was embraced by his loving family.
The Albano family would like to thank the staff of Unit 4 at Hillcrest Commons for the wonderful care that Bill received. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph J. Albano and Angelo "Tote" Albano, and three sisters, Brunina Williams, Philomena Davis and Ann M. Pivero. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Joseph's Church in care of the funeral home.
| I worked with Gabe,( Everyone called him Gabe in South Berkshire ) at Ben Franklin in Sheffield 1968 -69 until I got drafted. Used to hang out at the Sheffield Grill.
