Sylvia Agnes Molino, 83, formerly of Pittsfield, died Thursday at Greenbriar Terrace Healthcare in Nashua, N.H.
Born in Casio Valtellina, Italy, on Nov. 12, 1920, daughter of Lorenzo and Madelena Bertagna Secchi, her family moved to the United States when she was 2 and she grew up in Westfield, graduating from Westfield High School.
She also graduated from a nursing program in Springfield affiliated with the University of Chicago. She moved to Pittsfield in 1941.
A licensed practical nurse, Mrs. Molino was employed by Westfield Hospital and, in later years, as a bookkeeper for Sweatland-Pierce Oil Co.
She was a communicant of All Souls' Church and founding president of its Ladies' Society.
She was also a member of the Parent-Teachers Association at the former Hibbard School and, after her retirement, volunteered with hospice.
Her husband, Louis Molino, whom she married Feb. 27, 1941, in Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield, died June 25, 1994.
She leaves two daughters, Donna Chittenden of Pittsfield and Susan Surwell of Nashua; a son, Daniel Molino of Ridgefield, Conn.; 17 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Carol McLaughlin, died in 1994.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Sylvia A. Secchi Molino, who died Aug. 19, 2004, will be celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 24, at 11 at All Souls' Church, 51 Pembroke Ave., Pittsfield, by the Rev. Paul Burns, CSS.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Survivors include two sons-in-law, Larry Chittenden of Pittsfield and David Surwell of Nashua, N.H.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Molino of Ridgefield, Conn., 17 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Sylvia took great pride in her home and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Carol McLaughlin, in 1994, and two brothers, Carl and Frank Secchi. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Suite 1700, Chicago, Ill 60601-7633 or Home Health & Hospice Care, 22 Prospect St., Nashua, N.H. 03060. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., is in charge of arrangements.
