Lucy Gai

Lucy Gai, 91, of Cooper City, Fla., a former resident of Pittsfield and Adams, died Thursday evening at Memorial Hospice Pembroke in Pembroke Pines, Fla.

Born in Savoy on Nov. 22, 1912, daughter of Kazimierz and Katarzyna Glowacki Bieniek, she attended schools there.

She lived in Adams for 40 years and Pittsfield for 10 years, until moving to Florida in 1998 to reside with her grandson, Michael Gai.

Mrs. Gai was a homemaker.

Following the death of her son, John K. Gai, on June 28, 1961, she raised his two children.

She and her late husband, Batista "Babi" Gai, enjoyed traveling throughout Western Massachusetts to various polka dances.

She also enjoyed cooking for her family and neighbors.

Her husband, whom she married Aug. 10, 1935, died Oct. 30, 1997.

She leaves a daughter, Rosemary Lampron of Coconut Creek, Fla.; two brothers, Lawrence Bieniek of Sun City, Fla., and Walter Bieniek of Adams; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Lucy Gai will be Thursday, Aug. 26, at noon at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME in Adams. The Rev. Robert Moulton, permanent deacon of the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Stanislaus Kostka, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Central West Adult Day Center, 6899 Stirling Road, Davie, FL 33314.

Survivors include four grandchildren, Debbie Beiso and her husband, Dennis, of California, Michael Gai and his wife, Trinidad, of Florida; Jackie Dean and her husband, Gary, of Texas; Andy Lampron and his wife, Beth, of Florida; five great-grandchildren, Lance, Marissa, Christopher, Matthew and Collin, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Sophie Nowicki, Veronica Doktor, Anna Zrada and Julia Paczosa.
